OUR DOCTORS

The Sleep Disorders Clinic has Sleep Medicine Fellows who are sleep physicians currently training under Dr Gottschalk all of whom hold medical degrees as well as post-graduate specialties in Respirology or Psychiatry. Currently our fellows are Dr Salman Chaudry, Dr Rashad Ali, Dr Aasim Hasany and Dr Tamer Abdelshaheed.

RAYMOND GOTTSCHALK MB ChB; FRCP(C):
MEDICAL DIRECTOR AND QUALITY ADVISOR

Dr Raymond Gottschalk is a sleep disorders specialist, respirologist and internist. He has been the Medical Director of the Sleep Disorders Clinic since 1994 and is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, as well as the American Board of Internal Medicine. His interest in sleep disorders is not limited to breathing disorders of sleep but is wide and varied, including neurological disorders that affect sleep, parasomnias, insomnia, and all other diseases that have an impact on sleep. He is a regular assessor of sleep medicine clinics on behalf of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and has co-chaired the guidelines in Sleep Medicine practice for the CPSO IHF program for the past 12 years. His view of the patient as a whole person greatly influences his practice of sleep medicine.
 
PEGGY N. RAHAL, M.D., F.C.C.P:
ASSOCIATE PHYSICIAN

Dr. Rahal is a graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan; and did her residency training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, she then completed fellowships in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine and Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Rahal is board certified in Sleep Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr Rahal has joined the Sleep Clinic as of June 2015 as an associate physician in our Hamilton and St Catharines clinics. Dr Rahal is fluent in French.
 
CARIN DOVE MD, FRCPC (Neurology):
ASSOCIATE PHYSICIAN

Dr. Dove completed her undergraduate degree in Health Sciences, her medical school training, and her neurology residency at McMaster University. She maintains Fellowship status with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in the specialty of neurology.Dr. Dove was supervised by Dr. Gottschalk for her undergraduate project, which sparked an interest in sleep medicine. During medical school and neurology residency she spent a couple of training months in sleep medicine under Dr. Gottschalk and under Dr. Brian Murray at Sunnybrook Hospital. She is currently completing a Clinical Fellowship in Sleep Medicine at the Sleep Disorders Clinic. As of August Dr Dove will be joining Dr Gottschalk’s team as an associate physician in sleep medicine with a special interest in the intersection between neurological conditions and sleep problems. She works in the Hamilton clinic.
 
MARINA LERNER, MD, FRCPC:
ASSOCIATE PHYSICIAN

Dr. Lerner completed Internal Medicine training at Queen’s University in Kingston and Respirology Fellowship at McMaster University. She consequently choose to subspecialize in Sleep Medicine. Her professional interests include general sleep disorders, airway diseases, and chronic cough. Dr. Lerner has recently joined the Sleep Clinic as an associate physician in our Hamilton and St Catharines locations, practising sleep medicine in both locations as well as a respirology clinic in Hamilton. Her respirology practice is supported by a full service PFT laboratory at The Asthma and Respiratory Health Centre, also at 55 Frid Street.
 

MONA MOZAFARIA M.D.:
ASSOCIATE PHYSICIAN

Dr. Mona Mozafarian joins the Sleep Disorders Clinic, having completed her accredited Sleep Medicine fellowship at Seton Hall University in New Jersey. She was the Chief Sleep Medicine Fellow of her program and trained under Dr. Sudhansu Chokroverty, world-renowned sleep expert. Prior to this, she had completed her Family Medicine residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey’s Mountainside Hospital Program. She is board certified in both Sleep Medicine and Family Medicine. She is pleased to join the Sleep Disorders clinic and serve our growing community. Dr Mozafarian works in our Cambridge Hospital clinic.
 

GEORGE YUAN MD, FRCPC:
ASSOCIATE PHYSICIAN

Dr George Yuan is a sleep physician with broad interests including sleep-disordered breathing, hypoventilation, insomnia, periodic limb movements of sleep, parasomnias and narcolepsy. He completed fellowships in respirology and sleep medicine at McMaster University; internal medicine at the University of Alberta; and Doctor of Medicine at Western University. He holds a regular clinic at our CMH location as well as working a day per week in our Hamilton clinic. .
