FAQ

Home>Healthcare Professionals > FAQ

How quickly will my patient be seen for an appointment?

All referrals are triaged based on the information provided and booked according to severity of symptoms.

Are all patients seen by a doctor within your facility?

All patients are booked for an appointment with a sleep specialist following a sleep study. Some patients may have a consultation prior to a sleep study to determine if a study is required.

Are sleep studies routinely done on all patients referred to your facility?

Not all patients require a sleep study. Patients with Restless legs, insomnia or sleep related disturbances may have a consult first, prior to performing any overnight studies.

How soon after an appointment can I expect a report from your office?

Sleep reports should be received within four weeks of the PSG.  If you require the reports on an urgent basis, please phone us at 905-529-2259 or email us at reception@sleep-clinic.ca

There are times that my patients are reported by your doctors to the MTO, what do I tell them when they phone us upset that their license may be suspended?

When a patient is noted to have a sleep disorder such as sleep apnea or narcolepsy etc., that may cause the patient to be drowsy while driving, and they report daytime sleepiness, our doctors are obligated to report them to the MTO.

The patient should contact our office ASAP and our team will help direct them with the next steps needed to assist them with their inquiry.

I am going to refer my patient to a general surgeon but I suspect they have apnea. Should I refer them to you for assessment or let the anesthetist deal with it prior to surgery?

The sooner a patient is set up on CPAP prior to surgery the better. We offer an urgent pre-op service with a ten day turn-around time prior to surgery. If a patient requires CPAP prior to surgery and it is not possible to set the patient up soon enough, surgery may be cancelled by the anesthetist.

The Sleep Disorders Clinic offers a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic sleep services, including night time sleep studies and daytime tests.
